The first was scored by sophomore Natalie Niehaus whose hard shot bounced through the hands of the Shoregal goalie and into the goal. Lopez scored her goal with 3 minutes left in the first half on a shot from 18 yards out.  She was assisted by senior Annie Coyne.  This lone goal proved to be the game winner although the Shoregals had many opportunities to score as they dominated the offensive stats in this contest with a 25 - 4 advantage in shots and a 15-2 edge in shots on goal.  A superb job of goalkeeping by Bulldogs senior Madison Woods, who made 14 saves, allowed Olmsted Falls to stay close in this game.  In addition, the OF defense was able to force 8 offsides penalties against the Shoregals and made two goal saving tackles in the box to prevent any further scoring.

Olmsted Falls still had a chance to tie the game in the last minute as a late Avon Lake penalty gave the Bulldogs a free kick near the Shoregal goal.  The kick was not able to find the back of the net and the Shoregals escaped with the win which was their 15th in the last 16 games of this series and pushed their all-time record against OF to 15-7-0.

Shoregal Alumni in College Update:
At the midpoint of the season, it is time to give an update on what some of our former Shoregals are doing in college.  This past Saturday, six of our current players took a road trip down to Otterbein University to see Dana & Jillian Strimbu play, so let's start with them:

Dana Strimbu has played goalie in 8 games starting 5 and has a record of 4-2 with 2 shutouts and is starting to emerge as the primary goalie as a freshman.

Her sister Jillian has played in all 10 games thus far, starting one and has 2 goals on the season with one being a game winner for the Cardinals who are 6-4 on the season.

At Valparaiso University, senior Trisha Wladecki has played in all 11 games with one goal scored for the 7-3-1 Crusaders.

At Cleveland State, junior Taylor Miller has played in 7 games, starting twice and has not yet scored for the 3-8-0 Vikings.

At Ohio State, junior Tani Lopez plays for the Club soccer team and their record is
5-0 and have outscored their opposition 33-0!  That is right, they have not given up a goal this season thus far.  Difficult to find any stats, so I don't have more to report.

At Butler University, freshman Rachel Gates plays for their club soccer team and their record is 2-3 so far.  Once again, difficult to find any stats.

We will continue to keep you updated as the season progresses, but it sounds like our Alumni are representing the Shoregals very well.

All the scoring came in the second half of this Southwestern Conference match as Avon Lake struck first on a goal off a free kick by senior Kailey McClain. She was able to lift a shot just under the crossbar from 25 yards out to beat the Meteor goalie just 7 minutes into half.

Midway through the second half, Midpark tied the game on a goal by junior Katie Bainbridge who took a long pass on the left wing and sped past the Avon Lake defense to fire one into the Shoregal net.

The teams played a scoreless first half as Avon Lake had a decided advantage in shots 13 to 2 over Midpark, but were constantly thwarted and forced to take long shots by a packed in Meteor defense who utilized all 10 of their field players in their defensive third of the field.

Midpark goalie senior Sam Thompson turned away 8 shots while Avon Lake goalie Abby Rogers made 2 saves.

This year's game marked the end of a 20 year history of matches with Midpark as they will be closing the high school after the school year and merging with Berea for the 2013 season. In that span, Avon Lake has dominated this series with a 17-2-3 record.

Northview - Kathleen Duwve - 1 save

Game Summary:
Division 1 Regional Champion and State Final Four team in 2011 Sylvania Northview travelled to Avon Lake and battled the Shoregals to 1-1 tie.  The Ladykats led off the scoring midway through the first half when Sophomore Leah Arnsby booted in a teammate's deflected shot.  That goal stood up through the rest of the half as Northview maintained a 1-0 lead at the break.  The Ladykats controlled the game throughout the second half, but with 1:45 remaining Avon Lake Freshman Catie Corrigan sent a long pass up the right side of the field to Senior Claire Jones who dribbled by a Northview defender and then sent a shot into the upper left corner of the Ladykat net to earn the draw.  The Avon Lake goalkeeping duties were shared by Senior Abby Rogers with 4 saves and Junior Amy Crooks with 3 saves.  In goal for the Ladykats was Freshman Kathleen Duwve who recorded one save.

In JV action, Avon Lake prevailed 3-2.
