Program Notes for the Week of 3/21/11:
Shorepal Meeting:
The next meeting for the Shorepals has been scheduled for Thursday April 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Firehouse which is located at the corner of Lake Rd. and RT. 83. At the meeting, we will be reviewing our programming for the 2011 season. The following is a list of the areas where we will need parental help:
1) Concession stand – we need both someone to coordinate the stand during the season and someone to purchase the food items.
2) Father’s Day Tournament – the FD wil be held this year on June 18-19th. We will be working Troy both days and probably Walker on one of the days. We need one or more parents to coordinate the weekend.
Ken & Suzanne Krause have volunteered for this job.
3) Duct Tape Festival – the festival will be held on June 17-19th. We work the 3 days of the festival manning a booth where we sell duct tape and other promotional items. We will need someone to coordinate our volunteers. Paul & Amy Kress have volunteered for this event.
4) Alumni Game & Picnic – we need someone to coordinate this event which is becoming more popular every year. Projected date is July 10th.
5) Teambuilding Weekend – we will need parent drivers and chaperones for the weekend. Projected date is Aug. 6-7th.
6) Team Dinners – we will need a coordinator to schedule the dinners and for general oversight.
7) End of season party – need someone to host this event. We like to end our season on a positive note no matter what our results.
8) Pictures – We will need a volunteer to help us with both our Shoregal Yearbook and a season highlight disk.
9) Shoregal Yearbook – we would like to continue this tradition for its 5th year. This is a very high quality representation of Girls soccer at ALHS. We also sell ads to make it both self-sustaining and a fundraiser. We will need a lead coordinator and team leaders for each grade.
10) Scouting – John Kenny would like to share this task with someone.
11) Stat Keeper – John Kenny will handle this job again and I will need someone to assist also.
We need lots of help to support this soccer program, so please look these jobs over and let me know where you can help out. I can provide more detail on any job that you may be interested in.
Soccer Site of the Week:
We are going to go in a little different direction this week with the subject matter of our highlighted site which is:
http://www.miamisoccer.com/
This is the Miami University Women's soccer website and when you vist this site go to the "Redhawk Parents" tab. There you will find an interesting perspective on the role of parents in their daughter's soccer career. The opinions expressed on the Maimi site are not necessarily my opinion or the opinion of the coaching staff, but it is thought provoking and tries to get parents to put some perspective on their daughters soccer endeavors. In that respect it is worth reading and it gives some insight on how youth soccer is viewed on the collegiate level.
