Program Notes for the week of 2/7:
Soccer on T.V.:
Just as a reminder to parents to encourage your daughter to watch soccer on T.V. as often as they can. The Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) is included in the standard cable package on channel 318. FSC shows soccer games and soccer related shows pretty much 24 hrs. per day. They show games from the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, Spanish Primera, etc. along with games from the major international cup tournaments. In the summer, they show MLS and WPL games and college games in the fall. In addition, ESPN on channel 26 broadcasts English Premier League games on Saturday & Sunday mornings.
A lot can be gained from watching high level soccer as you have the opportunity to watch the footskills, the passing, the spacing, the formations, striking, headers, etc. Your daughter can take away moves and techniques that they can apply in their own practices and games. Sometimes visual representation helps to reinforce what the coaches are lecturing about at practices. Encourage your daughter to become a student of the game and to develop a love of the game, not just to be a player for a few months of the year.
Soccer Site of the Week:
This week we will highlight the following site:
http://www.ohsaa.org/
This is the official Ohio High School Athletic Association website and is the place to find all the official rules and pronouncements that pertain to girls soccer. On the girls soccer tab, you can find all time records, past state champions, state tournament results, official dates, statewide polls, and of course the official state regulations that govern girls soccer. One of the best features of this site is the Ohio Soccer Weekly which gives insight into a lot of questions that parents have about the rules of soccer.
