News for the Week of February 14, 2011

Program Notes for the week of 2/14:

New Pic:
Take a look at the ShoreGallery for a picture of the Championship Banner that now hangs in the gym.  Hopefully, this is the first of many years to come which will fill up that banner.

Kicks for the Cure:
We are going to be adding a new event in the Fall season called "Kicks for the Cure".  This is a breast cancer awareness and fundraising event that we will be organizing leading up to our game with Magnificat on 10/8.  This will be very similar to "Volley for the Cure" that the volleyball team stages. Kicks for the Cure has been going on for a while on the collegiate level and we want to be on the forefront of bringing it to the high school level.  The girls will play the game in pink shirts and we will be doing fundraising leading up to the game and on the day of the game which will be donated to the Susan G. Komen organization.  If anyone has a family member who has been touched by breast cancer we would like to dedicate the game and donate the proceeds in their name.  Send me an e-mail if this might be appropriate to your situation.  I will definitely need a lot of help to pull this off the first year and we want to make this an annual event.  It will serve as our team community service project for the year and will also give the girls the opportunity to earn those importnat service hours while supporting a worthy cause.

Soccer Site of the Week:
This week our featured site is:

http://www.gcssca.org/

This is the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Soccer Coaches Assn. website.  It has information regarding girls high school soccer in the Cleveland area.  This is the organization that determines the All Greater Cleveland player awards.  They hold a banquet after the season to recognize the All Greater Cleveland recipients and also to recognize the Academic All-Ohio honorees.  They also conduct a poll during the season to rank the best teams in the area.    The Shoregals rose to as high as 5th place in this poll during the past season.
