This has been the fifth meeting all time in this series and Avon Lake has been unable to come up with a win in as Brunswick holds a 3-0-2 advantage.

Game Summary:
AVON LAKE CAGES O FALLS BULLDOGS 1-0

It was a night of firsts for Avon Lake as freshman Mariela Lopez scored her first varsity goal and junior goalkeeper Amy Crooks recorded her first varsity shutout to power the Shoregals to a 1-0 victory over Olmsted Falls.

Lopez scored her goal with 3 minutes left in the first half on a shot from 18 yards out.  She was assisted by senior Annie Coyne.  This lone goal proved to be the game winner although the Shoregals had many opportunities to score as they dominated the offensive stats in this contest with a 25 - 4 advantage in shots and a 15-2 edge in shots on goal.  A superb job of goalkeeping by Bulldogs senior Madison Woods, who made 14 saves, allowed Olmsted Falls to stay close in this game.  In addition, the OF defense was able to force 8 offsides penalties against the Shoregals and made two goal saving tackles in the box to prevent any further scoring.

Olmsted Falls still had a chance to tie the game in the last minute as a late Avon Lake penalty gave the Bulldogs a free kick near the Shoregal goal.  The kick was not able to find the back of the net and the Shoregals escaped with the win which was their 15th in the last 16 games of this series and pushed their all-time record against OF to 15-7-0.

In net for the Shoregals was junior Amy Crooks who made 2 saves to earn the first clean sheet of the season for Avon Lake.  With the win, AL moves to 2-4-3 on the season.

In JV action, Avon Lake emerged with a 5-1 win after Olmsted Falls scored the first goal.  With the win, the JV Shoregals move their record to 7-2-1 on the season. Avon Lake goals were scored by Bri Carlin, Kayla Kress, Marisa Dzwonczyk, Mariela Lopez, and Casey Baughman. Assists were credited to Cara Dannemiller and Marisa Dzwonczyk. In goal for the Shoregals was Lindsay Butler who made 2 saves.

Shoregal Alumni in College Update:
At the midpoint of the season, it is time to give an update on what some of our former Shoregals are doing in college.  This past Saturday, six of our current players took a road trip down to Otterbein University to see Dana & Jillian Strimbu play, so let's start with them:

Dana Strimbu has played goalie in 8 games starting 5 and has a record of 4-2 with 2 shutouts and is starting to emerge as the primary goalie as a freshman.

Her sister Jillian has played in all 10 games thus far, starting one and has 2 goals on the season with one being a game winner for the Cardinals who are 6-4 on the season.

At Valparaiso University, senior Trisha Wladecki has played in all 11 games with one goal scored for the 7-3-1 Crusaders.

At Cleveland State, junior Taylor Miller has played in 7 games, starting twice and has not yet scored for the 3-8-0 Vikings.

At Ohio State, junior Tani Lopez plays for the Club soccer team and their record is
5-0 and have outscored their opposition 33-0!  That is right, they have not given up a goal this season thus far.  Difficult to find any stats, so I don't have more to report.

At Butler University, freshman Rachel Gates plays for their club soccer team and their record is 2-3 so far.  Once again, difficult to find any stats.

We will continue to keep you updated as the season progresses, but it sounds like our Alumni are representing the Shoregals very well.

Cudos Corner:
Thanks to John & Karen Osberg for being charge of our team dinner last week.
