News for the Week of March 26, 2012

Program Notes for the week of 3/26/2012:

Shoregals in the News:
From time to time we like to update everyone on some noteworthy accomplishments by our soccer girls.  Here is what our players have been up to lately:

1)  Clare Adams (Fr.) was selected to participate in the Regional Science Fair at Cleveland State University.

2)  Esther Killius (Fr.) and Rada Zunich (Fr.) garnered Honorable Mention at the ALHS Science Fair.

3)  Lindsay Quintero (Sr.) has one of the lead roles as Daisy Mae in the ALHS production of the musical Li'l Abner this coming week Thursday 3/29 thru Sunday 4/1 at the high school.

4)  Emily Peepers (Soph.) won 1st prize at the annual Lorain Arts Council Design Contest for her portrait of the Lorain Lighthouse & Charles Berry Bascule Bridge.

5)  Emily Peepers & Emily O'Connor (Soph.) organized a group of about 14 ALHS students to create portraits for the Memory Project.  The Memory Project is a nationwide initiative for students to create original portraits for children living in orphanages around the world.  Their mission is to give children who have been abandoned, orphaned, abused, or neglected personal keepsakes to honor their heritage and identity and to help build a positive self image.

It is nice to see that not only are the girls successful on the field, but are also great students and good citizens. We are proud to have them as a part of our program!

Coach Daegen also has an item worth noting as he was invited to coach with the 2012 OYSAN Olympic Development Program International Tour to France, Belgium, & Holland.  He will be accompanying a group of 12 & 13 year old boys and girls for training sessions, games, and sightseeing from 3/23 to 4/1.  We are fortunate to have coaches who are respected enough to be tapped to coach at the ODP level.

Soccer Site of the Week:
This week we will start a series of articles from the OYSAN - North site which can be found at:

http://www.oysan.org/Assets/Informed+Parent.pdf

This week's article is entitled "Making the correct decisions about your child's soccer experience".  We don't present these articles as this is what our coaching staff believes or agrees with, we present these as information to consider and reflect upon in the course of your soccer experience with your daughter.

Shorty Sez:
We continue to feature the teamwork philosophies from Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski who is a pre-eminent expert on leadership and teambuilding. This week's idea to reflect upon is as follows:

"Leaders instill respect for authority by having a caring attitude, by being direct, by communicating regularly, and by being honest."

-- Coach K
